She has been cleaned and polished to the perfect original luster. The entire guitar from structure and appearance to electronics has been inspected by our lutheir who gave her a big thumbs up. The case is original and in extraordinary condition. However, the FON is clearly stamped inside the treble F-hole where it should be, 7202 H, which places her in 1942.

This period of Gibson 125 models did not have serial numbers. The headstock has the thicker early “Gibson”logo. The sound, plugged into both vintage and modern amps is amazing. This style was only used on these models from 1940-1943. It was one of the first individual pole adjustable pickups for each string, setting the standard for that period. The pickup is an early transition from the Charlie Christian pickups of the 1930’s. The action is low, and with the wider early neck she's loads of fun to play. The fretboard is Brazilian rosewood with plenty of fret left at all levels. The neck is mahogany and straight as an arrow. But is much narrower at the lower bout than the larger ES versions that would follow-extremely comfortable.

The body's depth gives a full resonance, not achieved on some of the shallower, later models of the ES. She has a maple back and sides and a beautiful sunburst spruce top. No cracks, a relatively minor scratch on the front just above the pickup which has been professionally matched and touched up with the proper nitro cellulose (you have to have it in just the right position to even see where it was) and very minimal crazing anywhere on the guitar. This is an extremely well cared for guitar. This particular guitar may be one of the best-preserved models of its kind left standing from that 1940’s period. This is an amazing example of one of the first successful ES (Electric Spanish) guitar models ever made, with the first early model released as an ES-100 in 1938. Our Discount Price is $1,335.00 and Our Cash Discount Price is $1,295.00.If you are looking for a real pristine piece of history, this is the one for you. It has been $1335 or $1295 cash discount price but at present it is "on hold" for a buyer. Now that it has been set-up it plays great, sounds great (acoustic and electric) and, having been (mostly) made back in 1959, exudes class and distinction. It does have an added strap button in the back of the heel but then many instruments do. Oddly, even though it has suffered from revisionism the guitar generally shows only normal signs of use and playing time.

This instrument has received, at the hands of our crack staff of fretted instrument professionals, a potentiometer de-dusting, a thorough cleaning including the frets, a set-up and a restringing. The case is newer, and it fits nicely, however it is missing the back latch, has a replaced handle and is a bit worn (I'm a-frayed). Still, these are Gibson style knobs, only later. We also we note that its gold cylinder knobs are later in style than the instrument would have been provided in 1959 – it would have had dark gold high-hat knobs. The guitar’s last owner told us that he thought that perhaps the black P-90 single dog-ear single-coil pickup might be a replacement as well and it turns out it's a Seymour Duncan – though from the outside this would be hard to know, it certainly looks original, and we note that the wiring from pickup to jack is also replaced. The bridge looks upon a cursory glance, appropriate, but it is our belief that it’s newer than the year of the instrument since it has screwdriver slots at the top of each vertical metal adjustment shaft, and Gibson bridges do not. It has a replaced but perfectly traditional looking nickel-plated trapeze tailpiece (sans raised diamond).

It has replaced (but quite old) three-on-a-plate oxidized tuners, and the repairer who put them on was careful and thoughtful - he deliberately did not install two of the screws because he didn’t want to make 2 new holes. This non-cutaway f-hole hollow body electric guitar is a “player” meaning that while collectability has been affected, it works right and sounds exactly as it is supposed to sound. #S78617, A "Player's" Guitar in very good condition with nicely fitting newer hard shell case.
